Modern beer brewed in dundee

As Dundee’s first active brewery in over 50 years we are reviving the lost art of brewing in this vibrant city.

71 Brewing brewed our inaugural batch in The Old Foundry Building on Blackness Road back in 2016.

We are an independent brewery crafting crisp lagers and small batch brews inspired by new-wave, modern brewing techniques, traditional European styles and superior quality ingredients.

  • Brewed in the buildings...

The home of 71 is a former ironworks towering out of the heart of an area known as ‘Hell’s Half Acre’.

Spread over three floors and 27,000 sq feet, the brewery building formed a major part of the mighty Blackness iron foundry.

  • That gave Blackness its name

The sprawling Blackness Ironworks complex, dominated the Blackness neighbourhood of Dundee.

Much of the facility has been torn-down following the Second World War though smoke stacks and buildings from the old facility still dot the neighbourhood.

With thought and purity for creativity and endeavour.

Brewing beer is a creative endeavour brought to life through an industrial process.

Where once the Hammermen of Hell’s Half Acre transformed molten iron into the machines that made Dundee, we now forge beer with nature.

71 Brewing is our flavour foundry where we’ve mastered true harmony between beer and the bounty of local ingredients. Where we’ve led the way on carbon capture and waste-heat recovery.

We go beyond beer, making space to share joyful discoveries of all kinds, united by our makers’ mantra:

With thought and purity for creativity and endeavour.

  • Capturing what we make

Double double, toil but no trouble.

Over the last 8 years our once small facility has ballooned, producing tonnes of tasty beer every day. With our rapid expansion comes an increased environmental footprint.

Beginning in 2023 we have begun recovering CO2 from our fermentations for use in the brewery, dramatically reducing our reliance on external CO2. Every can of 71 beer is now produced using recovered CO2.

    Speaking of cauldrons...

  • It's getting hot in here

With our renovations nearing completion, we will begin using recovered heat from our chiller and brewing processes to heat our offices and taproom without the need for electrical or fossil fuel based heating sources.

The next time you're in, sit back and enjoy your pint while being warmed by the same yeast that made your beer.

Our taproom and bottleshop are currently closed

We have some big changes in the works including a new, purpose built taproom and event space.

Keep checking back as we announce the opening of our new taproom, event space, beer garden and bottle shop in the late summer, as well as the resuming of brewery tours.

And if we're all lucky, a couple of days out in the new beer garden before winter hits.

  • Fancy a bite?

In fall 2023 we opened our first off-site location in Dundee, The Maker, mere minutes away on Perth Rd.
